With version 0.3.0 of Avoyd we hit a significant milestone in development with the first release of gameplay along with multiplayer coop over Local Area Networks (LAN). Available for download now, this simple test features two enemy types, a drone spawner and drone fighters along with friendly drones. Your task is to destroy enemies to score points, with the large drone spawners scoring significantly more points than the fighters. Take care when the health of the spawners gets low, as they spew out more waves of drone fighters. Watch our gameplay tutorial video for more.
If you've read our Avoyd Editor Prototype Stealth Release post you'll know we intend to increase the price of Avoyd as we add functionality. We'll be bumping up the price from $4 to $5 next week, a relatively small increase as we're still missing a good chunk of functionality. There'll be more price increases as we add more content and features.
Feedback from our last release which introduced the movement prototype was that the movement modes were too complex and some people still experienced nausea when moving around in the 6DOF space. So we've simplified flight and always have momentum when not attached to a surface, meaning that you can't quickly strafe from side to side but you can build up a little speed. To reduce motion sickness we've removed the 'surface attraction HUD visualizer' to reduce apparent motion, increased the surface alignment speed, and quantized the alignment vector to reduce wobble when moving over uneven surfaces. Finally we've removed gimble lock when attracted to the surface, so you can look straight up and backwards before rotating to align to the surface once more.
The current version lacks a number of core features which we'll be working on, in particular:
If you have any feedback on what's important to you then do post in Avoyd's 'General' forum.
